Clement Davout

After graduating from the école supérieure d'arts et médias de Caen/Cherbourg in 2017, he pursued
his professionalisation within residencies in France and abroad, supported by numerous institutions and
collaborating with galleries in France, Belgium and Luxembourg.
The music he studied as a child now enables him to propose sound installations and immersive projects inspired
by the concept of ‘audible geography’. It is in painting that many of his questions crystallise. Devoid of any human
figure, the paintings invite us to pay attention to the world and its joys. These figurative works are made up of
glazes depicting the coloured air that surrounds us, bearing witness to the relationships and dialogues between
the living beings of which we are a part. Having grown up in the landscape, the artist went on to learn the history
of painting during her studies - this balance enables her to construct works in which several pictorial spaces are
superimposed and convey a ‘multi-sensory’ perception of the landscape. Whether through sight or sound, the
viewer is plunged into a meditative state. While the subject tends to disappear, to melt into the air, the colour
floods the support to attract attention and arouse curiosity.
