David Lurkin

Born in Belgium – Based in Liège

David Lurkin is a self-taught painter known for his distinctive and instantly recognizable style. Rooted in the city of Liège, he has built a strong reputation through an expressive body of work that blends popular culture, urban aesthetics, and contemporary techniques.

His art captivates with undeniable visual power. Drawing inspiration from both classical and modern icons, Lurkin plays with contrast, texture, and saturated color to create portraits that seem to vibrate on their surface.

Recently, he has taken a bold step forward by adopting a new medium: plexiglass. This modern support allows him to explore transparency, light, and depth in dynamic new ways.

In his latest plexiglass series, what immediately strikes the viewer is his daring use of fluorescent color. Vivid tones—acid green, bright orange, electric yellow—command attention and turn each work into a luminous, almost living object. These fluorescent hues aren’t just aesthetic choices; they extend the raw energy emanating from his portraits. Combined with the glossy finish of plexiglass and the precision of pointillism, they give each piece a radiant, near-neon quality.

Lurkin’s pointillist technique, with dots that resemble organic pixels, evokes both digital imagery and the artisanal rigor of traditional pointillism.

But Lurkin doesn’t merely paint faces—he reinterprets symbols. Each portrait initiates a dialogue between past and present, between the familiar and the newly revealed, inviting viewers to see iconic figures with fresh eyes.
